ITU-T Industry Engagement Workshop 2026: Making industry successful through standardization

The Interna​tional Telecommunication Union (ITU)  is organizing the "ITU-T Industry Engagement Workshop 2026: Making industry successful through standardization" on 27 March 2026 in Sophia Antipolis, France. The workshop will be kindly hosted by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)​ at its headquarters and will take place in the Athena Amphi, meeting room.​

Building on the momentum of the first Industry Engagement Workshop in 2024​, this second edition will examine how standardization can better enable industry success in an increasingly digital and software-driven environment. The workshop will explore how ITU-T can continue to support emerging digital technologies and ecosystems. Discussions will highlight industry needs, practical deployment experiences, and new collaboration models that strengthen the impact, and adoption of ITU-T standards.​

The workshop will feature keynote addresses from senior standardization and industry leaders.The workshop will conclude with a summary of key messages, outcomes, and proposed next steps to further strengthen ITU-T’s engagement with industry.​

Objectives of the workshop:​
  • Transforming ITU-T’s focus to digital technologies, examining how standardization can support areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, codecs, smart cities, and digital infrastructure.
  • Industry use of standards and success stories, showcasing concrete examples of how ITU-T standards are applied in operational networks and commercial solutions.
  • Interplay between standardization and open-source methods, exploring how open-source approaches and tools can complement and accelerate traditional standardization processes.​
The workshop invites representatives of private sector organizations from all regions and of all sizes, active or interested in ITU-T and the development of international standards. In-person participation is open to all interested stakeholders, including ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic institutions, and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU.​ Participation in the workshop is free of charge.
