Summary: This Recommendation recognizes that as RFID greatly facilitates the access and dispersion of information pertaining specifically to the merchandise that individuals wear and/or carry; it creates an opportunity for the same information to be abused for tracking an individual's location or invading their privacy in a malfeasant manner. For this reason the Recommendation develops guidelines and best practices regarding RFID procedures that can be used by service providers to gain the benefits of RFID while attempting to protect the privacy rights of the general public within national policies.
Comment: Following Member States consultation in TSB Circular 62 the approval of the Recommendation could not be considered at the April 2010 meeting and this Recommendation was redetermined on 16 April 2010
