Summary: Security of IoT data remains a significant challenge, particularly in applications where resource-constrained IoT devices are utilized, as their limited capabilities often preclude implementation of comprehensive security standards and/or widely-adopted general-purpose security protocols. This draft Recommendation proposes a productive methodology, ensuring security of IoT data with lightweight overhead that is affordable by constrained devices. This is done by realizing: Verification. Each security goal is clearly defined as computable assertions that can serve as the verification method. Customization. For a specific IoT application, only NECESSARY security goals are included while others are omitted. Lightweight protocols. Security goals are preferred to be realized as a lightweight security protocols, which are resource-efficient. This draft Recommendation proposes a framework and technical suggestions on: Generalized classification of IoT data security scenarios. Technical requirements on verification of IoT data security for each scenario, including definition, verification and lightweight protocols for security goals. Technical requirements for IoT applications which mandate multiple IoT data security scenarios.
