Summary:

With the advancement of sensing, computing, artificial intelligence and data technologies, IMT-2020 networks are evolving in-depth toward multi-domain integration. Network services have expanded from traditional eMBB, massive IoT and URLLC scenarios to emerging use cases such as immersive interaction, autonomous industrial robots, ubiquitous sensing, pervasive computing and industrial digital twins. These new services no longer rely merely on basic network connectivity. Instead, they require the network to decompose high-level service requirements from end users and 3rd party applications into multi-dimensional SLA requirements, match diversified network capabilities, orchestrate network functions on demand, and implement cross-domain collaborative resource scheduling, which imposes brand-new requirements on network management and orchestration (M&O) systems.
It is needed to initiate a new work item signalling and protocol for management and orchestration enhancements for service enablement in IMT-2020 networks and beyond. Based on the functional framework of ITU-T Y.MOSE, this new Recommendation will specify the interface reference architecture of MOSE, which will enable standardized interworking among 3rd party applications, core network functions and management and orchestration in IMT2020 and beyond.
