Summary:
|
Fixed, mobile and satellite convergence (FMSC) supports the provision of services and applications through fixed, mobile and satellite access networks. With the introduction of satellite networks, the FMSC network may include both land-based and satellite-based network parts. The network topology, resource availability and service paths may change according to satellite movement, coverage condition and deployment scenario.
Distributed core network in FMSC is specified in [ITU-T Y.3216]. It supports the deployment of network functional units in land-based and satellite-based networks. The land-based distributed core network may provide relatively complete core network capabilities, while the satellite-based distributed core network may deploy a lightweight and customized set of network functional units according to satellite resource availability and service requirements.
To support the distributed core network in FMSC, it is necessary to define the signalling architecture of FMSC-DCN. The signalling architecture is expected to specify the signalling interactions between the land-based and satellite-based distributed core networks through the interworking function, as well as the signalling interactions among network functional units.
