Summary: Intelligent awareness of network status is a technology and method that enables network builders, operators, service providers and users to become aware of network status (including fault, performance, resource, load, etc.) in a timely manner. With the evolution of future networks, higher requirements are placed on network status awareness to achieve more efficient network operation and management. [ITU-T Y.3184] ITU-T Y.3184 specifies the mechanism for intelligent awareness of network status. While Y.3184 defines how awareness is achieved, it does not provide a method to evaluate how well a network performs in that awareness. In actual deployment and application, networks that follow ITU-T Y.3184 may show significant differences in their capability to perceive network status. For example, some networks can only detect single-point faults, while others can perform cross domain root cause analysis. Currently, there is no common standard to evaluate these capability differences, making it difficult for network operators to objectively compare different systems or to determine what capability is needed for their specific services. To fill this gap, this draft Recommendation specifies capability evaluation framework, methods and procedure for intelligent awareness of network status.
