Summary: Recommendation ITU-T L.105 describes the characteristics, construction and test methods of optical fibre cables for drop applications. Optical fibre drop cables are used to connect customer to optical access networks through a network interface device (NID). The NID may be located either outdoors or indoors, depending on the access network configuration. When the NID is located indoors, optical drop cables can be exposed to both outdoor and indoor environments as they transition from outside to inside. In this case the optical drop cable should be designed for both environments. This Recommendation also specifies the cable characteristics required to support the appropriate performance of optical fibres in different applications. It describes a method for determining whether a cable possesses the characteristics necessary to support the conditions of the intended installation environment. As these conditions may vary according to the installation environment, the detailed test conditions for evaluation should be agreed between the user and the supplier on the basis of the environment in which the cable is to be used. Corrigendum 1 for L.105 aims to provide descriptions for “A.4.2 Ageing”, “A.4.3 Longitudinal water penetration”, “A.4.4 Moisture permeation”, and “A.4.6 Rodent and insect damage” which were missed in the revised Recommendation L.105 as well as several typos and editorial corrections.
