Summary: The proliferation of renewable energy generation introduces challenges related to intermittency and grid stability. Shared energy storage system (SESS) based on battery offer a scalable solution by enabling multiple prosumers and consumers—ranging from residential households to large-scale industrial parks—to utilize a centralized storage resource. Such systems virtualize physical storage capacity, manage multi-tenant access, optimize energy flows, and interface with energy markets. By storing excess renewable energy that would otherwise be curtailed and displacing fossil-fuel-based peaking plants, SESS directly contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A dedicated management platform is essential to coordinate these functions, as it ensures fair and efficient allocation of storage capacity, enforces operational procedures, and maintains system reliability under varying demand and renewable generation conditions. By specifying the framework of management platform and its operational procedures for shared battery‑based energy storage systems, this Recommendation supports the deployment of shared storage facilities serving multiple users or renewable energy sources. It aligns with climate change mitigation goals by enabling carbon emission reduction assessment, and contributes to improving renewable energy utilization, reducing curtailment, and enhancing grid stability.
