Summary:
|
This Recommendation specifies general requirements for Hybrid Energy Storage Systems (HESS) deployed in AI computing centres (AIDCs). It addresses the unique challenges posed by GPU-driven workloads, including millisecond-level power transients, high-frequency micro-cycling, and the competing demands of transient response, power fluctuation smoothing, and long-duration backup.
The Recommendation establishes requirements for HESS scheduling in AIDC, covering: power allocation and capacity dispatch based on load power spectral density; coordination with AI workload schedulers for pre-charging and carbon-aware operation; grid interaction management including harmonic compensation, islanding detection, seamless transition, and fault ride-through; state-of-charge and lifecycle management with active micro-cycle suppression; frequency decomposition for multi-timescale power allocation; virtual inertia and damping control using the high-power layer; dynamic backup capacity reservation; and PCS coordination for stable multi-layer operation.
