Summary: This document provides guidance on the practical implementation of age assurance systems and components. It is primarily intended for engineers, system architects, product and service providers, integrators, compliance and trust-and-safety professionals policy makers, regulators and other stakeholders involved in the design, procurement, deployment or operation of age assurance systems. Policy makers and regulators may also find it informative when assessing implementation choices. The guidance applies across the lifecycle of an age assurance system, including initial design, deployment, ongoing operation, review and update solutions. The approach to age assurance implementation in this document involves five elements: 1. Context of use – defining the environment, objectives and constraints for the age assurance activity. 2. Components and approaches – identifying methods and the building blocks that may be appropriate in that context. 3. Trade-offs – examining implications across the five core characteristics defined in ISO/IEC 27566-1 (functional, performance, for privacy, accuracy, security and acceptability), as well as other context-specific factors such as, efficacy, cost, efficiency and, inclusivity and other relevant factors. 4. Constraints Concerns – identifying and mitigating technical, operational, legal and societal risks. 5. Deployment – selecting and integrating components, documenting the implementation through practice statements and preparing for analysis and comparison.
