Summary: This draft Recommendation will address the critical connectivity challenges in remote agricultural environments where terrestrial network infrastructure is either absent, unreliable or economically unviable. It introduces a service-layer architecture framework for integrating alternative wide-area backhaul networks with local terrestrial IoT networks, that ensures connectivity for digital agriculture applications such as crop monitoring, livestock tracking, etc. The draft Recommendation will define requirements and capabilities of IoT network systems for digital agriculture in remote areas to ensure global hardware and gateway interoperability, optimized power consumption and secure data flow.
