Driven by global circular economy policies and sustainable development goals (SDGs), the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is rapidly becoming a mandatory infrastructure for tracking product lifecycles and environmental compliance. However, current global DPP deployments face critical challenges, including the risk of data manipulation ("greenwashing"), the potential leakage of sensitive national and industrial baseline data, and the lack of cross-border mutual recognition mechanisms.
To address these critical issues, this draft Recommendation provides a trust framework for DPP systems supporting IoT-enabled product lifecycle data exchange and verification. It categorizes and specifies the trust requirements into four pillars: Entity, Data, Process, and Technology. By standardizing mechanisms such as decentralized identity verification, selective disclosure for privacy protection, and federated trust registries, this draft Recommendation acts as a crucial "trust enabler". It provides the necessary security and interoperability baseline for existing DPP architectures, ensuring that global supply chain data is both verifiable and privacy-compliant.
