Summary: As a very important future network area ITU-T Recommendation, [ITU-T Y.2501], which was published 5 years ago in 2021, specifies the framework and architecture of the Computing Power Network (CPN). Since its publication, the standardization landscape of CPN has continued to evolve in both terminology and application scenarios. With the publication of [ITU-T Y.2500] in 2025, a set of basic terms and definitions related to computing power networks has been established. To improve the completeness and internal consistency of the CPN standards framework, it is necessary to revise [ITU-T Y.2501] to align with these standardized definitions, including key concepts such as computing power and computing power network. Incorporating these definitions will provide a clearer conceptual foundation for [ITU-T Y.2501] and facilitate common understanding, implementation, and interoperability among stakeholders. In parallel, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly the widespread adoption of large models and generative AI, has led to an exponential increase in real-time intelligent inference demands. These emerging AI-driven services introduce new requirements for CPN, including high concurrency, ultra-low latency, and enhanced coordination across computing and network resources. However, the functional architecture defined in the existing version of [ITU-T Y.2501], which primarily targets general computing and best effort connectivity, is no longer sufficient to fully support such AI-related service requirements. In summary, the revision of [ITU-T Y.2501] is driven by two key considerations. Firstly, it aims to incorporate the standardized terms and definitions established in [ITU-T Y.2500] to ensure terminological consistency and conceptual alignment across the computing power network (CPN) standards suite. Secondly, it seeks to integrate AI-related technologies and services into the functional architecture of [ITU-T Y.2501], reflecting the evolving trend toward intelligent, AI-enhanced networking and enabling the CPN framework to support both existing and AI-enabled computing and communication scenarios.
