Summary: The purpose of this Recommendation is to define functional requirements for AI agent as a service. AI agents, as defined in ISO/IEC 22989, are automated entities that perform goal-oriented, multi-step tasks by interacting with users, systems, and services. In practice, AI agents are increasingly developed and used in cloud computing environments to leverage elastic execution environments and cloud-side support for multi-agent collaboration and lifecycle operation. While, existing ITU-T Recommendations address several aspects related to AI agents, including communication, security, and application-specific systems. Current cloud computing Recommendations, however, primarily focus on cloud services and infrastructure resources. They do not explicitly specify cloud-side functional capabilities required to support AI agent as a service, especially for key operational needs in cloud environments such as scalable multi-agent collaboration, trusted registration and lifecycle management, controlled agent/tool interactions, and elastic operation with automatic cloud resource matching. As a result, AI-agent support in cloud computing environments often relies on platform-specific implementations, increasing integration and operational complexity and making it difficult to ensure consistent service assurance (e.g., reliability, controllability, and predictable performance). AI Agent as a service (AAaaS) is a cloud service category in which the capabilities provided to a cloud service customer is the functionalities to develop, execute, operate, manage and use AI Agent. This Recommendation provides overview of AI Agent, AI Agent as a service, and functional requirements through various use cases of AI Agent in cloud computing. Also, this Recommendation align with the cloud computing reference architecture of ITU-T Y.3502.
