Summary:
|
As the first barrier against mechanical damage and environmental stress during manufacturing, handling, and deployment, fibre coating attributes are already mandatory quality control parameters for major manufacturers (tested pre-shipment), yet integrating these specifications into G.65x series recommendations would formalize this industry practice for consistent compliance. For cable manufacturers, coating parameters are essential for designing cable structures and optimizing the cabling process. As in the ITU-T L.1xx series recommendations, the primary coating diameter is mentioned throughout. It is also critical for RDCF (Reduced Diameter Coating Fibre) which is defined in GSTR -SDM. RDCF has been widely adopted in high-density cabling scenarios in existing networks. To include coating specifications and related test methods in G.65x would provide essential guidance to support safe, reliable deployment of optical fibre cables.
This revision at a minimum will address the following items:
- add Clause 6.4 (Primary Coating Diameter) and Clause 6.5 (Primary Coating-Cladding Concentricity Error) to include fibre coating as essential parameters for fibre attributes.
- add nominal requirements in Table 1 and Table 2 in Clause 8.
