Summary:
|
Y.Supp.TC-QN identifies technical considerations for quantum networks, including relevant components and their configurations. It also introduces potential migration scenarios from Quantum Key Distribution Network (QKDN) towards quantum network. Furthermore, it outlines a standardization roadmap within ITU-T. Especially, standardization implications on a layered model of Quantum Network. Since the Y.Supp.TC-QN is at a final phase of the development and defines technical considerations on the high-level perspectives of a layered model, quantum end devices, QN nodes, control and management and addressing, it is an appropriate time to initiate a new Supplement to study further details of the architectural aspects including study on different approaches of the layered models, addressing/forwarding/routing, and control and management of QN.
There are a number of new capabilities introduced to support QN routing such as virtual and opportunistic hybrid path computation, fidelity purification mechanisms, and swapping mechanisms, etc. It is essential to extend the existing IP network routing taxonomy to enable QN routing and specify them in standardized manner.
Furthermore, optimal control and management of the newly introduced QN capabilities in the reference model are additional critical aspects to be considered for the standardization.
Therefore, this draft Supplement describes technical considerations to specify different approaches of the layered models of QN, functional elements involved, addressing, forwarding and routing mechanisms, QN routing taxonomy, and control and management mechanisms. Lastly, it recommends standardization implications from the perspective of the QN architecture.
