Summary: Future networks including IMT-2020 networks and beyond are evolving into cloud-based, highly distributed environments, rapidly increasing the complexity of network architecture and the need to respond to increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks. In these environments, traditional, passive and limited monitoring methods are insufficient to achieve technical goals. In particular, service provisioning based on network slicing and the increasing number of modules operating across access network (AN) and core network (CN) of IMT-2020 networks require cross-domain observability capabilities for end-to-end (E2E) network monitoring, including E2E SLA compliance. To cope with such gaps caused by the increasing future network complexity, introduction of native AI, and intelligent cyberattacks, it is necessary to specify that E2E cross-domain observability management and orchestration (M&O) capabilities. This draft Recommendation specifies a framework and functional requirements of the cross-domain observability M&O for IMT-2020 networks and beyond.
