Summary: With the rapid development of digitization, network application scenarios have become increasingly diverse and complex, and the quantity and performance diversity of terminal devices have also significantly increased. In service scenarios, including but not limited to high-quality video streaming, file downloading, AI training and inference data distribution, the network quality, such as throughput and latency, have a significant impact on user experience, so there is an urgent need for standardized network acceleration solutions that do not require user’s awareness. All these applications require the network to provide acceleration services for them, and enhanced and new functions need to be provided to support those applications that require network acceleration. This Recommendation gives an overview of network acceleration, and analyses the application characteristics and new requirements for the network. According to the requirements, enhanced ITU-T Y.3102 functions and new functions in the network are specified to support network acceleration.
