Summary: This new work item aims to define and develop quality of service (QoS) assurance mechanisms specifically designed for Quantum Key Distribution Networks (QKDN), leveraging the advanced control capabilities provided by Software-Defined Networking (SDN). SDN is a revolutionary paradigm that is maturing along with quantum key distribution network (QKDN) technologies in the next-gen trend. The separation of control and data planes in SDN enables the emergence of novel network features, such as centralized flow management and network programmability that encourage the introduction of new and enhanced network functions. Accordingly, QKDN architectures with SDN benefit from a homogeneous and unified control plane that can seamlessly control a QKDN end-to-end. In SG13, Recommendation ITU-T Y.3805 (Y.QKDN_SDNC) has been standardized to specify the hierarchical software-defined networking (SDN) controller and overall operational procedures of SDN control in QKDN. Recommendation [ITU-T Y.QKDNi-SDNC] has moved forward and made tangible progress in the past meetings to pave a surer path for improving a series of standards and studies on SDN control (SDNC) issues. SDN provides new solutions for traditional QKDNs. However, in SDN-control-based QKDNs, SDN still suffers from QoS issues. QoS assurance plays a significant role in QKDN and the SDNC ability is important for the QoS assurance functionality enhancement. It is the appropriate time to promote the standardization on the QoS assurance for SDNC in QKDN.
