Summary:
|
The objective of this Recommendation is to facilitate the harmonious development and deployment of extensible cable operators’ services for distributing digital television and audiovisual content to portable devices that do not have broadcast receiving capabilities, using wireless local area networks (WLAN). As smartphones and portable devices increasingly serve as primary media consumption platforms, ensuring reliable access to content becomes crucial. The envisaged scenarios include areas with unstable or no internet and no backhaul. Secondary distribution via WLAN offers a practical solution, providing limited mobility to users without requiring additional hardware. This approach aligns with the Direct to Mobile (D2M) concept within the existing ecosystem and holds promise for widespread adoption in the future. The Recommendation defines functional requirements for converged gateway node (CGN) consisting of an integrated receiver decoder (IRD), video and media server, web server and local content server.
