Summary: This Recommendation specifies a quality evaluation framework for extended reality (XR) terminals. The framework is structured into four parts: routine evaluation, static evaluation, dynamic evaluation and quality of experience (QoE) evaluation. Static evaluation addresses the system influence factors of the terminal itself, such as optical and display performance, positioning and tracking accuracy, motion-to-photon latency and system performance. Dynamic evaluation addresses the system influence factors that characterize the performance of the terminal under realistic network conditions, such as throughput, latency, jitter, packet loss, streaming/casting and short-distance communication. QoE evaluation addresses the quality features and QoE constituents perceived by the user, such as comfort, cyber sickness, immersion, spatial presence, heating and battery lifetime. An indicative correspondence between the system influence factors and these quality features is also provided. The Recommendation also provides an evaluation workflow for selecting the relevant items for a given terminal and use case, and rules for reporting comparable results; the subjective assessment relies on existing ITU-T Recommendations, such as ITU-T P.812 and ITU-T P.1321. Routine evaluation items, such as safety, electromagnetic compatibility and information security, are identified for completeness only; their requirements are outside the scope of this Recommendation.
