Summary:
|
SMS and USSD access channels are playing a critical role in promoting inclusive service delivery as they are being used as tools for enhancing last mile delivery of services. They have evolved from being mainly domestic services to being used for the delivery of international services such Over-the-Top services, cross-border mobile financial services amongst others. SMS and USSD have also evolved beyond text-based communication between two individuals as Application to Person (A2P) text-based messages and are now used for electronic confirmations for various online services. On the global scene, enterprises communicate through social media and OTT messaging applications such as WeChat, Telegram, Instagram for the delivery of alerts and notifications to customers as an avenue to confirm customer identity.
