Summary:
|
As new virtual reality services are rapidly being deployed, measurements of quality related
factors are of vital importance.
Recommendation ITU-T Rec. G.1035 defines an extensive set of quality influencing factors for virtual reality services. A subset of these factors can be determined accurately, others can be determined using measurement points close to the defined points.
For example, the end point of a motion-to-photon latency measurement might be determined
based on the decoded video frames on the user’s device, instead of being based on the light emission of the display. This leads to a possible estimation error.
Measurement of some of the remaining factors like immersion or presence using a measurement algorithm are still unclear. These factors that are unclear to measure objectively are out of scope.
Further, for factors with a strong temporal variation, like bitrate, frame rate, delay, a temporal aggregation needs to be defined, especially if comparable and reproducible results are of importance.
This work item develops measurement methodologies for quality influencing factors that are reproducible in multiple test laboratories.
