Summary:

Road safety is a crucial aspect of mobility both for individuals as well as for policymakers. VRU service can have a positive impact on the protection of the most vulnerable traffic participants. The unified requirements for VRU service using vehicle gateway can further protect the most vulnerable traffic participant and reduce the number of people suffering serious injuries. Meanwhile, it can reduce the cost of development for different car manufacturers and achieve connectivity with cross-manufacturers. In conclusion, the aim of this recommendation it to specify the architecture and corresponding requirements of VRU service using vehicle gateway, including the service requirements and function requirements for vehicle system, Vulnerable Road Users device, communication network, road infrastructure as well as cloud server, and further explicit requirements for different service type in practice.
