Summary: Recommendation ITU-T G.654 describes the geometrical, mechanical and transmission attributes of a single-mode optical fibre and cable which has the zero-dispersion wavelength around 1 300 nm wavelength, and which is loss-minimized and cut-off wavelength shifted at around the 1 550 nm wavelength region. In the latest version of G.654, descriptions for cut-off wavelength contain some uncertainty and/or mismatch with the latest transmission systems. In addition, there is a slight discrepancy between the cable cut-off wavelength specification for G.654.E and the shortest operation wavelength of G.698.2. This revision will address the following items: Validation of existing description regarding cut-off wavelength. Confirmation of cutoff wavelength measurement accuracy of existing test method. Revision or refinement of cable cut-off wavelength specification for G.654.E category.
