本建议书描述了一种用于以太网传输的多数字用户线（DSL）绑定方法。本建议书可以支持SHDSL、VDSL和ADSL传输，同样也支持它们所演进的将来出现的xDSL技术。
本建议书基于IEEE 802.3ah-2004中的方法之上，并且将以太网传输扩展到其他xDSL技术，包括ADSL。本建议书并不描述特定xDSL传输技术的详细信息。相反，它重点放在绑定所需的PCS层修改方面。
