La Enmienda 3 a la Recomendación UITT G.9804.1 incorpora requisitos adicionales para las redes ópticas pasivas (PON) de mayor velocidad, entre los que se encuentran la complementariedad para combinaciones de doble velocidad de 25/50 G en el sentido ascendente, la eliminación del requisito de velocidad en sentido ascendente de 12,5 Gbit/s y la incorporación del caso PON industrial.
