يتضمن التعديل 1 على التوصية (2010) ITU-T G.7712/Y.1703 مواصفة ومتطلبات استعمال شبكة اتصالات البيانات (DCN) في اتصالات الحمل الإضافي للقنوات البصرية (OCh). ويشار إلى الشبكة DCN التي تستعمل في اتصالات الحمل الإضافي بشبكة اتصالات الحمل الإضافي (OCN). وتوفر هذه الشبكة قناة أو أكثر من نقطة إلى نقطة من أجل اتصالات الحمل الإضافي. ويشار إلى هذه القنوات بقنوات اتصالات الحمل الإضافي (OCC).
