Supporting the Joint Statement on Artificial Intelligence and the Rights of the Child
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), together with the Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, is pleased to invite stakeholders to submit Partner2Connect (P2C) pledges in support of the Joint Statement on Artificial Intelligence and the Rights of the Child, co-signed by thirteen international entities.
The Joint Statement, led by ITU and the Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and co-signed by a broad group of international partners, calls for collective action to ensure that artificial intelligence is developed and used in ways that respect, protect and fulfil children’s rights.
As artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly shapes children’s experiences online and offline, this Call for Pledges provides a light and practical pathway for stakeholders to demonstrate concrete action and contribute to a safe, inclusive and rights-respective digital future for every child.
Through this call, ITU invites governments, regulators, industry, international organizations, civil society, academia, and development partners to make voluntary, measurable, and time-bound commitments that contribute to advancing child-rights-based approaches to AI.
Stakeholders are invited to indicate, when submitting their pledge, that it supports the Joint Statement on Artificial Intelligence and the Rights of the Child, so that commitments can be brought together under this shared effort.
Pledges may relate to one or more areas addressed in the Joint Statement, including efforts to:
- Place children’s rights, best interests and voices at the centre of AI-related action
- Support safe, secure, and trustworthy AI systems for children
- Strengthen privacy and data protection in digital and AI environments
- Promote inclusion, accessibility, and non-discrimination
- Enable meaningful child participation and strengthen digital and AI literacy
- Advance transparency, accountability, and appropriate oversight
- Build evidence, research, and capacity on AI and children’s rights
- Support child-friendly ways to report harm and access support or remedy
- Foster international cooperation and multi-stakeholder partnerships
- Encourage environmentally responsible and sustainable approaches to AI
Through this initiative, ITU and the Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child seek to encourage concrete commitments that help translate the Joint Statement into action.
We warmly encourage all stakeholders to participate in this Call for Pledges and to join the Partner2Connect Digital Coalition in advancing this important agenda.
We look forward to your engagement and contributions.
