Securing space for future generations

The G20 Digital Economy Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, put digital issues at the forefront, with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin calling for safe, responsible development of emerging technologies for the good of everyone, everywhere.

Our 2nd Space Sustainability Forum explored the challenges of keeping the orbital environment safe and secure, stepping up cooperation among space agencies, regulators, the private sector and United Nations agencies, as well as underlining the need for ITU-led spectrum management to keep outer space viable for future generations.

A key regional seminar in Chengdu, China, boosted the expertise of national radio regulators across Asia and the Pacific, familiarized them with the latest ITU tools and practices for efficient spectrum management, and outlined the space-dominated agenda for the next World Radiocommunication Conference, WRC-27.

On the global digital development front, a five-year review showed how ITU-Cisco Digital Transformation Centres have helped thousands of people in underserved communities gain basic and intermediate digital skills.
