2nd Business Roundtable

International Chamber of Commerce Business Action to Support the Information Society (ICC BASIS) and United States Council for International Business (USCIB)

Session 568

On invitation only Wednesday, 8 July 2026 07:30–08:30 (UTC+02:00) Physical (on-site) and Virtual (remote) participation Room B, Palexpo Special Session 1 Document

The adoption of the WSIS+20 outcome document marks the beginning of a new phase focused on implementation. Achieving the vision of a people-centered, inclusive, and development-oriented information society will require substantial investment, innovation and collaboration across stakeholders. As the primary investors, operators and innovators of the digital economy, businesses play a central role in delivering many of the outcomes reflected in the WSIS Action Lines and the WSIS+20 outcome document.
This roundtable will provide an opportunity for business leaders to share practical examples of how industry is supporting the implementation of the WSIS agenda and to discuss the policy, regulatory and investment conditions needed to scale these efforts. Discussions will explore how governments, regulators, the ITU and other stakeholders can help create enabling environments that encourage investment, innovation and technology deployment, particularly in underserved markets.
The session will also examine the role of financing in delivering the WSIS vision, including how public and private resources can be mobilized effectively through public-private partnerships and investment-friendly policy frameworks.
Participants will exchange views on how to strengthen collaboration between governments and business to accelerate digital development, expand connectivity, and support sustainable growth in the global digital economy. The objective of the discussion is to identify and share practical recommendations from business, focusing on enabling greater private-sector contribution to the implementation of the WSIS+20 outcomes and to strengthen dialogue between business, governments and international organizations on the policies needed to support continued investment and innovation.
