Business Perspectives on Furthering the Outcomes of the WSIS+20 Review
International Chamber of Commerce - ICC Basis
Session 255
Following the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20), the global community is entering a critical phase focused on implementation, follow-up, and advancing the outcomes of the review. This session will explore the role of business in supporting the implementation of the WSIS+20 outcomes and advancing the WSIS Action Lines, as well as how the United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS) can serve as a practical bridge for structured, ongoing collaboration between the UN system and the private sector to advance shared WSIS priorities.
Bringing together representatives from the private sector, government, UNGIS, and the broader WSIS community, the roundtable will examine how business can contribute to the implementation of WSIS+20 outcomes, support the delivery of the Action Lines, and help advance broader global digital cooperation efforts, including those related to the Global Digital Compact. It will also highlight opportunities for the private sector to proactively engage with UNGIS and UN partners to translate WSIS commitments into concrete, scalable initiatives through sustained collaboration.
The discussion will also consider how the private sector can more effectively leverage UNGIS as an entry point to coordinate engagement across UN agencies, bring forward scalable solutions, and contribute expertise, investment, and innovation to accelerate delivery of WSIS+20 outcomes. Participants will share perspectives on creating an enabling environment for digital transformation, promoting innovation, and supporting inclusive and sustainable digital development across regions.
Drawing on the expertise of the panel and the wider multistakeholder audience, the session will identify practical opportunities for collaboration and highlight how the private sector, working alongside UN partners, can drive implementation partnerships that move beyond dialogue toward delivery, impact, and measurable progress in achieving the WSIS vision beyond the review milestone.
