This session will take place in Workshop Room 6, in Lillestrøm, Norway.

The annual WSIS Forum, hosted by ITU since 2009 and co-organized with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in collaboration with over 40 UN entities, serves as a multistakeholder platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. The Forum has become a cornerstone of the WSIS process, bringing together the WSIS multistakeholder community.

This session will provide a special briefing on the upcoming WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, to be held from 7 to 11 July 2025 in Geneva, marking 20 years since the World Summit on the Information Society. This session will present the Outcomes of the Open Consultation Process (OCP) for WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025, highlighting key findings, stakeholder contributions, and the finalized program, and objectives of the upcoming Forum. This event is one of the key milestones in the WSIS+20 review process and will help shape the vision for WSIS beyond 2025. It will present ongoing preparations and how the event will contribute to the WSIS+20 review by the UN General Assembly.

Ms. Gitanjali Sah
Ms. Gitanjali Sah Strategy and Policy coordinator International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Moderator

Gitanjali Sah is an experienced International Civil Servant and has worked with several United Nations Organizations like ITU, UNESCO and UNDP in the field of ICT on Development related policy and implementation issues at an international, regional and national level. At present she is working with the International Telecommunication Union and is focussed on the coordination of global digital UN Processes like World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and others to achieve the internationally agreed development goals.

She has an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge, UK and a Masters from the Jawarhar Lal Nehru University, India.

Mr. Yu Ping Chan
Mr. Yu Ping Chan Head of Digital Partnerships & Engagement UNDP

Yu Ping Chan is a Senior Programme Officer in the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology at the United Nations. She coordinates the team’s work on follow-up to the Secretary-General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation and the digital-related aspects of his Common Agenda Report, in particular the development of a proposed Global Digital Compact. She also oversees the Office’s overall advocacy, engagement and coordination efforts to strengthen global digital cooperation and its work on other emerging technologies.

Mr. Dejan Jakovljevic
Mr. Dejan Jakovljevic Director of Digital FAO and Agro-Informatics Division and Chief Information Officer Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Italy

Mr. Jakovljevic is the Director of the Digital FAO and Agro-Informatics Division and Chief Information Officer of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

He has more than 20 years of IT experience and use of technology in International Development. He is a strategic leader in the field, aiming to harness the power of technology towards achieving SDG goals. His work focuses on driving Digital Transformation, organizational modernization and enabling Innovation scale up and delivery.

Prior to joining FAO, Mr Jakovljevic held positions with UNICEF and WHO, with leadership roles in East Asia and Pacific, European Region, and driving global initiatives in the other parts of the world. Mr. Jakovljevic has Master's and Bachelor's degrees from the University of Houston, Texas.


Ms. Bruna Martins dos Santos
Ms. Bruna Martins dos Santos Policy and Advocacy Manager WITNESS, Brazil

Digital rights activist who focuses on advocacy, regulation, and policy-making related to emerging technologies and Internet Governance. She has been a proactive contributor to the shaping of internet legislation in Brazil, notably the Civil Rights Framework for the Internet and the Brazilian General Data Protection Legislation. Her involvement extends to impactful advocacy campaigns and fostering stakeholder engagement on vital subjects like data protection, the challenges posed by State Surveillance, and the realms of freedom of expression and platform regulation.

Also active on the international stage, Bruna was a member of the UN’s Internet Governance Forum’s Multistakeholder Advisory Group and currently serves as a councillor for the Generic Names Supporting Organization at ICANN.

Mr. Veni Markovski
Mr. Veni Markovski Vice President ICANN

An adviser and advocate on international Internet policy and cybersecurity, Mr. Veni Markovski promotes a thriving, open Internet by fostering connections across countries, cultures, and markets.

He has assisted governments, enterprises, and non-profits in understanding and strategically acting on evolving policies and technologies. Notably, Mr. Markovski co-founded Bulgaria's first commercial Internet Service Provider (1993) and its Internet Society chapter (1995), successfully challenging government control over the internet. He also co-authored key provisions in Bulgarian telecommunications, copyright, and penal code.

As ICANN's Vice President, Mr. Markovski serves as the primary liaison to the United Nations, engaging diplomats on Internet policy. He regularly speaks at global conferences, demystifying the Internet's inner workings.


Mr. Ryszard Frelek

Since 2007, Ryszard works in the United Nations Specialized Agency - the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is currently working as a Counsellor in the External Relations Division under the Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector.  The Division is responsible for managing WIPO’s interactions and partnerships with external stakeholders, including Intergovernmental Organizations, Non-governmental Organizations and Industry.

Previously, he was the focal point for cooperation with a number of Central European and Balkan countries, where he coordinated WIPO support for the implementation of national and regional projects, such as the development/implementation of national IP strategies, updating national IP legislation, IP training, as well as building national and international private/public and public/public partnerships. 
 
Before joining WIPO he gained experience in law companies and public institutions. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Law in Poland, specializing in IP and new technologies. He also studied international management and economics in Germany.
