What is the role of the ICT professional in ensuring that standards and ethics codes are adhered to when working with AI?

AI is part of the skillset for ICT Professionals. What is their role in ensuring that standards and ethics codes are adhered to when working with AI, especially considering that data is used differently in various situations / siloes? ICT Professionals (supply side of ICT) must lead their organisation in the ethical use of AI. We will review the possibilities of Generative-AI, Agentic AI, AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and ASI (Artificial Superintelligence).  We will also consider why every company needs to allow an exploration of AI, but ensure that the workflow so that it's in keeping with the company's brand/culture/etc.

The session will be very interactive. The audience should ask questions that the panellists can react to.

Mr. Anthony Wong
Mr. Anthony Wong IFIP President IFIP (Global)

Anthony Wong is an ICT Lawyer, CIO and Technologist, with over thirty-five years of international experience across the public and commercial sectors. He has also held senior management positions in multinational corporations and government, with particular experience in technology, legal, data governance, ethics, legal & regulatory compliance and digital transformation.

He is the President of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), an Industry/Professional Fellow at the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute at the University of Technology Sydney and an Adjunct Professor of the School of Information and Communication Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak. He is the Director of AGW Legal & Advisory, a multidisciplinary legal and advisory practice advising in many areas of law and technology.

Anthony is a key industry thought leader, a regular commentator and presenter on topical technology and legal trends in various international forums.


Mr. Don Gotterbarn
Mr. Don Gotterbarn IFIP IP3 Board Director, IFIP USA

Don Gotterbarn has extensive experience both in academia and as a software systems developer working on projects for the U.S. Navy, the Saudi Arabian Navy, and the European Union. Projects include: avionics, decision support systems, vote-counting machines, and missile defense systems. 

As chair of the ACM's Committee on Professional Ethics, he led the international task force that developed the 2018 Revised ACM Code of Ethics, which was later adopted by other computing organizations, including the International Federation for Information Processing. He also chaired the ACM/IEEE Computer Society committee that developed the Software Engineering Code of Ethics and Professional Practice.

He has received various awards for his three decades promoting professionalism in the teaching and practice of computing, including the Joseph Weizenbaum Award, the ACM Presidential Award, and the IFIP David O’Leary Award. He continues this work by chairing IFIP’s Ethical Frameworks group, as a member of IFIP’s IP3 and the BCS ICT Ethics Specialist Group, and the ACM’s Professional Development Committee


Mr. Damith Hettihewa
Mr. Damith Hettihewa IP3 Board Director IFIP, Asia

Damith Hettihewa is the Managing Director of Nimbus Cloud Lanka Ltd and President of Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) in the years 2022 & 2023. He currently serves on the board of IP3. He was elected as the Chairman of the Governing Council of United Nations Social Economic and Commission’s APAC Centre for ICT Development (UNESCAP/APCICT) in 2018.  

Damith is a Chartered Engineer by profession who graduated from University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering.  He holds an MBA from University of Hull United Kingdom.


Ms. Margaret Havey

Margaret Havey is a Technical Advisor at Shared Services Canada (SSC), the Department responsible for the Government of Canada’s ICT infrastructures. She is a Professional Member and Fellow of CIPS and is the Canada Country Member Representative to IFIP, where she serves as Member of the General Assembly, Director on the IFIP International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) Board, and IP3 Liaison to ISO/IEC 24773 WG20 covering Systems and Software Engineering Skills and Competencies. Other areas of interest include AI, Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, and ICT Ethics. Other affiliations include ISACA and ACM.
