Mission: AI + Women , Art & Nature

Swiss Association of Women and Empowerment

Session 160

Monday, 7 July 2025 14:00–14:45 (UTC+02:00) Physical (on-site) participation only WSIS+20 Open Space, Palexpo Women and Girls in Digital Interactive Session

The Swiss Association of Women and Empowerment (SAWE) will introduce MISSION: AI+ ART, a unique program aimed at empowering women and girls across the world through the power of art, knowledge, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence. In line with our approach to making complex global issues accessible, we will showcase how our program addresses themes such as gender equality, sustainable development, justice, and technology in a creative, engaging, and innovative way. Building on this, we will also present one of our other projects: five AI-generated digital artworks that reinterpret classical paintings through the lens of climate change, along with a critical discussion and reflection on our impact on the planet.

Following this, we will present a short film introducing our organization, our actions, and our future projects through the prism of our hand-painted avatars. Powered by artificial intelligence, these avatars will offer a fully immersive experience into SAWE’s world by highlighting our role in promoting the empowerment of women and girls through the development of emerging technologies. Deeply attached to our Swiss identity, our Genevan avatars will demonstrate how these technologies - especially our MISSION: AI+ ART app - can contribute to building a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive society, in line with the WSIS+10 Vision for WSIS Beyond 2015.

Finally, we believe that shaping a better future requires amplifying the voices of young people and creating space for them to lead. To that end, a young girl will share her insights on the role of emerging technologies in empowering women worldwide and making information on global challenges more accessible and interactive for youth. With this event we aim to highlight the empowering potential of AI through our program, while emphasizing its corrective power in addressing the risks of the digital world and raising awareness about climate change.

WSIS Action Lines
  • AL C3 logo C3. Access to information and knowledge
  • AL C4 logo C4. Capacity building
  • AL C7 E–ENV logo C7. ICT applications: benefits in all aspects of life — E-environment
  • AL C8 logo C8. Cultural diversity and identity, linguistic diversity and local content
  • AL C10 logo C10. Ethical dimensions of the Information Society
  • AL C11 logo C11. International and regional cooperation

This session directly advances the WSIS Action Lines by showcasing how AI and digital technologies can empower women and girls, raise awareness about sustainable development, and serve as impactful educational tools. Specifically, SAWE’s short film, featuring AI-powered hand-painted avatars, clearly supports C3 (Access to Information and Knowledge) by demonstrating how an AI-powered application can make complex information and knowledge accessible and engaging.

By combining art, AI, and digital innovation to empower women and girls, MISSION: AI+ ART is the perfect example of C4 (Capacity Building). It enhances digital literacy, creativity, and leadership skills, and can be implemented across countries as an essential tool to build competencies for today’s digital era. Additionally, the AI-generated artworks on climate change demonstrate C7 (ICT Applications - Environment) since they exemplify the use of digital tools to raise awareness about environmental challenges.

The inclusion of diverse voices during the event and avatars representing multiple countries strongly reflects C8 (Cultural Diversity and Identity) by celebrating cultural diversity and local traditions through technology. Lastly, our partnership with other international and regional organizations and associations explicitly contributes to C11 (International and Regional Cooperation) by fostering cross-border collaborations that enhance ethical AI governance.

Sustainable Development Goals
  • Goal 4 logo Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
  • Goal 5 logo Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  • Goal 9 logo Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
  • Goal 17 logo Goal 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

Our session is highly connected to all the Sustainable Development Goals because the interactive application we will present features avatars representing each SDG, each trained to answer questions related to their specific goal. However, our main focus will be on SDG 5, as our AI-powered application - designed by women and for women - aims to empower women and girls. The session is also linked to SDG 4 since our goal is to promote an inclusive and innovative educational tool. Moreover, our session strongly connects to SDG 9 by highlighting how innovation can be fostered through the development of unique and impactful applications. Finally, we will exemplify SDG 17 by presenting our partnerships and multilateral collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
