Dear all,

We very much look forward to meeting you soon in Geneva or online at the upcoming 14th EGTI Meeting from 18 to 20 September 2023. Please make sure to register for the meeting – we all look forward to your active participation and contributions.
As usual, a session of the meeting will be dedicated to Future work.
Please post here any proposals you may have concerning EGTI’s work for 2024. As a guide to making these recommendations, you may consider the following thoughts (taken from the EGTI Chair’s post last year):

-o- Are there any new telecoms/ICT issues (services, networks, regulatory/policy issues, ...) that you feel that we should be measuring?
-o- Do you feel that our existing indicators should be updated or changed given the rapidly evolving nature of the telecoms sector?
-o- Have you been using new data sources and/or data collection methods that you think we could all benefit from?
-o- What about data quality/consistency issues that could be dealt with by EGTI?

As an initial round of suggestions, please find here the topics that have been flagged to be on the EGTI work agenda and are likely carry overs:
-> Define and refine methodology for new indicators created by simplifying (aggregating) existing indicators by the subgroup on the review of the Long Questionnaire, including fixed and mobile numbers ported or foreign investments in telecom;
-> Develop indicators to measure middle-mile connectivity (IXPs, data centers, etc.);
In addition, there has been a growing interest in better understanding satellite-based broadband Internet as a solution to connect the unconnected. The topic is featured on the EGTI 2023 Meeting agenda, and may warrant further interest...

Your input concerning the future work of EGTI would be most valuable because it will allow a deeper discussion during the meeting.
You are All invited to share ideas you may have concerning future work, preferentially by posting them here in this topic, or, if you feel more comfortable contacting either the EGTI Chair or the ITU secretariat, please feel free to send an email to indicators@itu.int.

See you all soon,
With best regards,
Daniel Vertesy
