2 Use Case Description
21 Description
The poor access to digital tools and creative tools in learning in underserved communities in 4.7: Education
Nigeria has led to 60 percent of girls population with no access to Digital STEM learning access
as reported by UNICEF. Poor undeveloped technological use skills of teachers, with 60 percent
digitally illiterate and infrastructural system deficiencies has stumped innovative and creativity
in STEM learning. All these issues have made evidenced literacy-based training in many public
schools fall short in supporting educational STEM learning, digital illiteracy and exclusion of
girls’ especially in public schools and digitally unserved communities.
This use case demonstrates how the Rising Hope Girls Educational Foundation (RHGE) is
utilizing and integrating GENAI to enhance creative expression and STEM learning for girls in
underserved digital communities in Nigeria and support innovative use of AI in fostering girls’
digital inclusion in digital underserved communities, promote gender inclusion campaigns,
engage new cognitive literacy learning action in the use of EdTech workflows in STEM and
STEAM with AI use cases in programs. The initiative integrates student-generated art with AI
models in Project Based Learning solutions that is capable of translating their artworks into
dynamic digital forms, such as visual animations, NFTs, AI-generated narratives, and immersive
presentations. This has also broadened our other STEM workshops practices adoption in
employing AI tools to help students simulate experiments, visualize scientific concepts, support
AI creative workshop in evidenced based practice with other use applications, coding, digital
learning solutions and explore careers in emerging tech fields.
In this work the Generative AI not only enhances the aesthetic value of creative outputs but also
acts as a bridge to computational thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy development and
innovation for students. It has shown to support CS use learning opportunities to stimulate girls’
interest in STEM careers and drive arts creativity. It has also shown to support social campaign
for girls in Challenge based learning adoption and in Project Based Evidence learning in the
communities.
Language of instruction was English, as students engaged with English for instructional learning
activities.
Use case status:
Active — ongoing deployments in community-based schools in 4 regions of North central
Nigeria in Abuja FCT area of Dutse, Kubwa, Bhazhin, Dei Dei, where 6 schools have been
approved for digital training by the NGO in supporting AI learning in STEM. The learning impact
would support more than 1000 teachers and 7000 students in AI cognitive training. Also, the
Use case was deployed in Challenge based learning solutions for students in the Ciena Solution
Challenge by Digital Promise a US educational NGO. Our project use case was part of the 42
projects that was awarded with over 135 projects submissions. [9] [10]
