Summary: The PMI (Privilege Management Infrastucture) is currently part of Rec. ITU-T X.509 | ISO/IEC 9594-8 and defined as an infrastructure separated from PKI. PMI handles the concept of attribute certificates. Having public-key certificates and attribute certificates makes it almost impossible to establish the relationship between public-key certificates and attribute certificates. An attribute certificate has relationship with up to two public-key certificates, the signing public-key certificate and the public-key certificate that identifies the holder of the attribute certificate. That complicates validation of attribute certificates.
