Summary: Factory energy management system (FEMS) monitors and analyzes energy consumption by gathering production related energy data to manage factory energy use efficiently. It consists of five layers working together for energy management. However, its connections with multiple external systems and energy related systems expand the attack surface, and vulnerabilities in the gateway can lead to data and control related issues. The critical data it handles makes it a target for attackers. Also, its various functions from data collection to device control bring potential threats, and the distributed deployment adds more security concerns as each instance can be an attack entry point. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the security threats and security requirements of FEMS to ensure its secure operation. This draft Recommendation analyzes the specific security threats and security requirements of FEMS, especially regarding its role in factory operations, and provides appropriate security measures to reduce these security threats.
