Summary:
|
An App is required to have the corresponding privacy policy, which is a document or text that states how an App collects and processes personal information. In this way, the App store could check whether the App’s actual data usage behaviour is consistent with its privacy policy. Users also could read the App privacy policy and then agree or decline the data usage agreement before installing an App.
There are some available systems and frameworks to check the consistency between App’s data usage behaviour and its privacy policy in industry and academia. However, they enable to check whether App’s data usage behaviour is consistent with its privacy policy from different angles, but not from a holistic perspective. So, it is difficult for the industry to adopt them in practice.
This Recommendation is to design a reference architecture for automatically checking whether the App’s data usage behaviour is consistent with its privacy policy based on AI. In this way, users could quickly understand data usage purposes stated in the lengthy privacy policy of Apps and check whether data usage in App behaviour is consistent with the purposes stated in its policy. It also enables the App stores to automatically check whether an App’s actual data usage behaviour is consistent with its privacy policy.
The main sections/clauses of this Recommendation are:
Requirements for analysis of consistency between App’s data usage behaviour and its privacy policy
Reference architecture for AI-assisted analysis of consistency between App’s data usage behavior and its privacy policy
