Summary:
|
IMT-2020 radio system is expected to replace the wiring inside apartment buildings in urban area and the cable television systems in rural areas. However, certain requirements shall be met for the IMT-2020 radio system to use as an alternative to cable television, including limitation on bandwidth usage. This Recommendation outlines the functional requirements for IP broadcast services in cable television utilizing MIMO technology as a feature of the IMT-2020 radio system. The object of the Recommendation is to ensure both the high reliability in IP broadcasting of television services and high efficiency in data communication.
ITU-T J.152 and ITU-T J.153 already cover the IP broadcast service, which facilitates the connection of the transmitted TV signal via hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) or Fibre to the IMT-2020 radio system. This Recommendation further specifies the functional requirements for the adaptive control of MIMO technology within the IMT-2020 framework.
The key difference is that pure IPTV operators utilize a one-to-one communication model, whereas target IP broadcast systems utilize multicast and broadcast services (MBS), one of the features of IMT-2020, for one-to-many communication.
The term IP broadcasting, as intended in this Recommendation, refers to the distribution of cable multi-channel programs based on MBS, and is identical to the positioning of IPTV.
The adaptive control of MIMO in this Recommendation means applying single-stream diversity MIMO to IP broadcast streams focused on reliability and multi-stream MIMO aimed at expanding transmission capacity to communication data streams. This makes it more realistic to provide cable TV services that offer both broadcasting and communication over IMT-2020 radio system with limited bandwidth.
