Summary:
|
Ubiquitous vehicle connectivity is essential for connected vehicles. Terrestrial networks still have some coverage gaps, especially in low-populated remote or rural areas. Hence, coverage of 3G, 4G and 5G networks is sometime limited in such areas. Satellite network can provide complementary coverage extension to terrestrial networks especially in poorly covered areas or uncovered areas. Besides, Satellite internet services can support emergency call, traffic management in disaster situations, remote control functions for vehicles, vehicle status monitoring, widely available telematics services, or assisted driving applications. Seamless mobility between Terrestrial and Non-Terrestrial Networks is a critical target to offer such connectivity to vehicles while keeping applications running without interruptions
