Summary: This technical report addresses ultra-high-precision optical clocks and their networking which are expected to allow unprecedented accuracy and stable performance compared to currently available cesium-based atomic microwave clocks, as the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) plans to redefine the second in the International System of Units (SI) using optical clocks. This technical report covers the following aspects but not limited: Ultra-high precision optical clock systems Categories Performance (accuracy, stability) Measurement scheme (optical) Optical frequency conversion and transmission Frequency comb characteristics (efficiency, stability) Optical frequency transfer (repeaters, optical amplifiers and fibers) Coexistence with DWDM systems (interference, impairment) Applications and requirements Ultra-long holdover time in PRTC (effective GNSS vulnerability handling) Remote PRC in G.8272.1 Coherent PRTC in G.8272.2 Full plesiochrony (independent synchronization) Scientific physical sensing and measurements (geodesy) Synchronization for quantum networks (including co-propagation with quantum channels)
