Summary:
|
At present, faced with the continuous growth of information and communication network infrastructure, energy consumption is a huge challenge. In developing countries, the energy consumption issue is a notable aspect.
With the efforts of ITU-T SG5, SG2, SG11 and SG13, the standardization work on energy efficiency of network infrastructure have already been established. In SG5, there have been a series of work items addressing the topic of energy efficiency measurement and assessment. In SG2, several work items introduce energy efficiency enhancement from telecom operation and management aspect. In SG11, several work items address the protocol and testing issues of energy efficiency enhancement. In SG13, several work items introduce energy efficiency enhancement from network and resource level.
However, the existing network solutions address energy efficiency just from some specific network equipment in core network or access network. Due to relatively limited technological and financial resources, there may be difficulties and complexity in adopting the individual methods in Developing Countries. There is a need to implement a unified AI-based solution for energy efficiency management of the whole network infrastructure, in order to reduce network operation energy consumption and carbon emissions to achieve the goal of green networks.
This Supplement proposes to provide the AI-based energy efficiency management practice for the whole network infrastructure to improve green energy efficiency in Developing Countries, taking into account the energy efficiency management on the end-to-end communications system (including radio access network, core network and data centers).
