ITU-T Y.4604建议书定义了摄像机感知信息（MCSI）的元数据，并描述了在自主移动物联网（IoT）设备上工作的单个MCSI的特性和特征。
在使用低成本和低分辨率的IoT摄像机传感器设备的情况下，由于物联网设备能力资源有限，因此不可能支持全特征的摄像机感知信息。传统的全性能数字摄像机设备提供复杂的元数据，例如摄像机设置（激励、灵敏度、快门速度等）、时间、位置信息、摄像机型号。
对于来自不同制造商的兼容和折衷的IoT摄像机感知元数据，没有任何指南。这导致了与可互换元数据相关的问题。因此，至关重要的是提供基本的和最少的摄像机感知元数据以实现物联网应用与服务之间的互操作性。
