New Annex K "Media oriented negotiation acceleration procedure" and associated changes to Annex J |
 |
The new Annex K describes a procedure comprising complementary methods for significantly reducing delay in H.324 call setup. It provides a fast channel setup mechanism which does not wait for capability exchange but requires a fallback if the initial media transmission attempts do not succeed. It provides a flexible accelerated channel setup method that depends on an initial exchange of preferences and the execution of a common inference algorithm. It provides an accelerated H.245 setup method as a simple and reasonably fast technique in cases where the other methods are not suitable. Interoperation with legacy terminals is also preserved across the procedures. Some changes needed in Annex J, due to the new Annex K, are also addressed. This edition includes the clarifications and corrections introduced in Annex K by H.324 Corrigendum 2 approved on 1 January 2007. The corrections are made to prevent a possible problem with the transition from MONA encapsulated media to regular (H.223 framed) media, allow the use of corrupted encapsulated media if desirable by a MONA device and to use the MONA preference message multiplexer level (MONA-ML) to negotiate the initial multiplex level for all MONA-to-MONA sessions. |
