
Outstanding Digital Changemakers recognized at the Global Innovation Forum
Over 60 applications were received from entrepreneurs, innovators and small- and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to pitch their innovative projects to a committee of experts at the ITU Global Innovation Forum, held in Valletta, Malta, from 28-30 October 2024.
After a series of pitching sessions, six finalists were invited to showcase their ideas to the Global Innovation Forum jury.
Three digital start-ups received a Global Innovation Forum award in recognition of their efforts to advance digital innovation in their communities and beyond.
The three winners are:

Mais Taha, MTiPX (Malta), in the Digital Changemaker category for driving local change and addressing community challenges through innovation.
MTiPX designed iPX | XEROWASTE, a digital design framework that consists of audit and smart label certification systems targeting researchers and design owners in their product design journey to eliminate materials waste, energy consumption and emissions.

MACRA, Muuni Fund, ICT Research and Innovation Fund (Malawi), in the Ecosystem Practice category for fostering entrepreneurship and building supportive ecosystems for innovation.
Muuni Fund is an ICT Research and Innovation Fund under the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) that aims at providing seed funding for undertaking ICT related research and innovation initiatives to provide for local solutions and incubation of innovations in different sectors of the economy.

Dr. Teddy Nalwanji, Bulamu Bridge AI Technologies (Uganda), in the OpenTech4Impact category for leveraging open-source solutions to address pressing social, environmental, and economic issues.
Bulamu Bridge AI Technologies is a health tech social enterprise, using a mobile app, My FemiHub app, and Whats App chatbots to digitize access to maternal care and sexual reproductive health rights information and services in Uganda.
