This initiative is being celebrated for the first time here in PNG University of Technology.

The country being so diverse and full of culture it is difficult at times trying to communicate between the different native languages and between ethnic groups. But not anymore. The modernised ICT systems have enabled the ease of communications through the English Language to land line phones and the mobile phones. In fact the development of ICT systems has now enabled real time contacts from anywhere in the world. This was testimony affirmed by Mr Graham Rix of Daltron PNG who was the guest speaker and spoke during the International Girls in ICT day celebrated at University of Technology in Lae, PNG.

Pro Vice Chancellor Academic Professor Satter from the University told the girls during the forum that to be successful you must be patient in the learning process. On completion of studies and having the right attitude you can find employment anywhere in the world and not just PNG.

The ICT Services department financed and facilitated the forum which saw 20 girls participating and took part in sharing and networking. Ms Matilda Pamao of ICTS who chaired the forum invited the girls to come together and form a committee to take this initiative further. This is a sure vehicle that can carry out awareness so girls even in secondary schools can take up ICT studies when they make their choices in their career on entering the Universities.

Girls who are employed presented their employment history and the joy of being employed in this field. They all encouraged the students to stay focussed in their chosen ICT career and to work alongside their male counterparts where and when necessary.
