Md Nasir is a Senior Applied Research Scientist at Microsoft AI for Good Lab in Redmond, USA. He works on various machine learning problems with positive impact on environment and society, such as computer vision with biomedical and satellite imagery data, natural language processing, and machine learning for health. He leads and contributes to different projects related to public health, medical imaging, gender equality, conservation, disaster management, and more. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California (USC) in 2019, where he was a part of Signal Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory (SAIL) and Signal Processing for Communication Understanding and Behavior Analysis (SCUBA) research groups. Prior to that, he obtained his Bachelor’s in Engineering degree from Jadavpur university, India in 2013. His doctoral research focused on modeling interaction dynamics in human conversations and its application in mental health domain like couple therapy, suicide risk assessment, and depression. He has co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in top-tier conferences and journals. His work has been covered in many major media publications, such as BBC, Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph (UK), Vox, Scientific American, etc.
