Enrique Vega
Unit Chief, Healthy Life Course Unit, PAHO/WHO

Enrique Vega is a Medical Doctor and a Specialist in Gerontology and Geriatrics from the Medical University of Havana, Cuba and received a master’s degree in public health and Aging also in Havana, Cuba. Dr. Vega is a Research Fellow on Geriatrics from the University of Goteborg in Sweden. From 1991-2005, he was the Deputy Director of the Center of Research on Aging and Health in Havana, Cuba. From 1998-2005, he also held the position of National Director for Older Persons Care for the Ministry of Health and Chair of Health and Aging at the National School of Public Health in Cuba.

Dr. Vega was part of the international core group that constructed and produced the draft of the United Nations’ Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, adopted by the Second World Assembly on Ageing in Madrid in 2002. He served as the Regional Advisor on Aging and Health at PAHO/WHO. And in 2015, he was promoted to his current position as PAHO/WHO Unit Chief for the Life Course Unit, at the Health Systems and Service Department in PAHO/WHO HQ in Washington DC.
